SABAT traces the fate of Batkhorol Sagdkhorol, known as Sabat, a Mongolian film student turned diplomat who vanished from East Berlin in 1979. Was he a spy, a defector, or simply lost in the machinery of history? Decades later, the filmmaker embarks on a journey to uncover the truth, following a trail from Potsdam to the remote steppes of Mongolia. Yet, the closer the search gets to an answer, the more elusive it becomes. Official records are wiped, testimonies contradict, and what begins as an investigation turns into a meditation on memory, friendship, and the nature of truth itself.
