At first glance, the reality of war may seem to be about the frontlines, trenches, shelling, and attacks… But for the curators of this program, the reality of war also includes the years-long manipulation of Russian society by its authorities through feature films that distorted history and degraded the Ukrainian people—a phenomenon explored in the Ukrainian documentary 'Zinema'. It is also the story of 'A Message from Sasha', a film about a young woman who, in her hometown of St. Petersburg, replaced price tags in an ordinary grocery store with anti-war messages—and was sentenced to seven years in prison for it. It is the grief reflected in the eyes of a father who lost his son in a Hamas attack in Israel. And it is also a series of short films offering different perspectives on these war realities—through the lenses of filmmakers from France, Switzerland, Germany…
